This is a very catchy song, which after only a handful of listens I already know word for word. The alternative pop sound is thanks to the beautiful and mystical voice of Charlotte Lawrence and fresh new indie, hip-hop sounds of YUNGBLUD’s music and it's definitely worth a listen.
The music video fits the song perfectly as the apocalyptic desert scene where the video has been filmed gives the video an almost theatrical feel – like a scene out of ‘Rage’ or ‘Mad Max’. The alternative, edgy personas of the two singers also adds a whole new layer to the experience of the song and the romance between the characters also really encapsulates the point of the song, showing that when bad things happen or are going to happen the experience can be made somehow bearable and perhaps even enjoyable by being around someone you love.
The point of the song and video is emphasised further by YUNGBLUD’s use of the lyric from the song ‘There is a light and it never goes out’ by the Smiths in which YUNGBLUD references the quote ‘what a heavenly way to die’ which drives the point of the song and video home.
Although at first the new, less punky style of YUNGBLUD’s voice in this song threw me off guard, his new style of singing/rapping in this song grew on me very quickly. Make sure you're just prepared for something totally new and different if you’ve listened to YUNGBLUD’s other songs such as ‘I love you, will you marry me’ and ‘California’ which have a very different, fast paced, punk/indie vibe.
